One sock done ... almost

I just have to kitchener the toe on my first Poma sock. I finished the knitting Saturday night however I saved the the Kitchener for Sunday. I do not kitchener late at night - every time I try it gets messed up. It is something I have to do when I am fresh, at the beginning of a knitting session. I thought I would finsih it Sunday night and be able to show you the completed sock today. Last night, however, my yarn needle was not where it was suppose to be in my little pouch with all of my other knitting accessories. One blue plastic needle is packed in a box with my Samus sweater, however that is in Canada so that is not going to help me (at least the Samus sweater is the last thing I was working on it with).

I have also decided that my bamboo dpns are too dull for this project (I know I am half done and I am deciding this). I actually decided it a long time ago but have not had an opportunity to go get another set of needles. The k2tbl which feature prominately in this pattern needs a sharp needle - so does the purl tbl.

This delay will be good so I finish Ali's socks before I finish knitting myself another pair. It will help me finish a project. I only have about 5 cm left of knitting on Ali's socks so it shouldn't take too long. Just depends on how much time I have for knitting this week.

The summer of stash

Liz over at Crossroad Knits decided to use her stash for the summer. Several others and myself have decided to join her in the Summer of Stash or SOS. The idea is from Memorial Day to Labour Day you only use yarn from your stash. You are allowed to state some exceptions at this time (if you have already signed up for a sock of the month club, going to visit a sheep farm and will be buying homespun that type of thing). They have the complete story over at the knit along blog.

I'm loving the poma.. socks the pattern is very easy to memorize, it may look daunting at first being 12 stsx22 rows, but after you complete row 3 you can see how the whole thing comes together. A quick check half way through (when it begins to slant the other direction) and that is all that it takes. Sunday night I was able to knit one repeat, it should have been more than this but at row 7 I glanced at the pattern and said "its not this easy I am doing it wrong" and ripped 5 rows out. I didn't check my knitting with the pattern or looked at the pattern to see that I in fact was doing it correctly. There are three repeats on the cuff and I am on my third repeat, so I should be able to make the heel turn this weekend without a problem.

The decision is ....

I have decided so far on the Pomatomas sock - I will however for the sake of my sanity have to come up with a nickname I can actually spell in referring to this sock on the blog. Tomas? Poma? Either of those names and I might as well learn to spell it all, PS sock? I'll have to see if anything sticks. Last night I cast on and finished the ribbing and barely started the pattern.

I disregarded Jenni's advice as I don't have the yarn or pattern for her write in. I may make it in the future. Would the fall be okay to put that on the list?

It took me a little longer to get to PS then I thought it would, mainly since I lied (I didn't mean to lie, when I stated the comment I thought it was the truth) about being done on the heel in the mistake rib sock. See I thought my third attempt at this heel looked good and I started the heel flap. Then I started looking at the gusset and the heel.

Picked up the first sock - the second one is shorter. I had forgotten/skipped 8 gusset rows, so my gusset was going to be short 4 sts on each side and sock was going to be short, back I ripped added the extra rows. The end of this story is I didn't finish the heel until Friday night, so now just the cuff left. I was hoping to have this pair done this weekend, and well that is not going to happen.

I am going work on the cuff of the poma, to make sure I like how it is going to go and then I'll finish Ali's socks.

What to make next?

So I am at the heel turn in mistake rib sock #2, and I need to start thinking about the next pair of socks. I have a couple of skeins of Koigu KPPPM in I believe the P113 colourway. (I was going to bring the yarn today to photo but I didn't so you will have to make due with ones I have taken from other places). There is a lot of different sock patterns out there that I would like to make. So I have decided to ask you what I should make next. The choices are
Embossed Leaves Socks from Interweave Knits Winter 2005
Pomatomus from Knitty Winter 2005
River Rapid Socks from Sock Bug pattern as a pdf in the side bar,
Denmark from Knitting on the Road by Nancy Bush. I don't currently have this book....

I have Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch however, it is currently not in my possession (that living in two countries thing), I know there is some patterns that I want to make in there so please feel free to suggest something from there.

Since it is KPPPM I don't want to complicated of a pattern that won't be noticed with the colours of the yarn.

Does anyone else have suggestions for a pattern they have enjoyed and would look good in a blue KPPPM?

I'll now distract the lack of knitting progress photos with this picture of a tulip amongst the Solomon's Seal. Finding lots of great stuff coming up in the garden.

Moving Day

Today my husband, Ali, with the help of family and friends are moving into out house. I am working on my dissertation project so am not there to help out.

The electricians finished yesterday, the fridge and cupboards have been cleaned, paint colours have been chosen. The colour* that we are going with for the kitchen, is Sherwin Williams "Greens". Some people get fancy names with the colours that they chose not us just plain old "Greens" I do like the colour though. The living room colour though is "Nasturtium". Both of these colours look great with all of my cobalt blue items. Ali got a sample of the Greens and painted a portion of the wall in the kitchen. I may get a pic to show.

I actually have knitting progress to show. Last weekend I finished one of the Mistake rib socks. Just to refresh - these are Trekking XXL colour 102, for my husband who loves my socks. I bought this yarn at Rhinebeck last year.

I know everyone is at MSW this weekend, and I hope they are having a blast.

*the colour of these paint samples, are not remotely correct on my monitor- hopefully they will be better on yours.

Home and Garden

I hope everyone enjoyed my husband's guest blog* the other day. He may do some more occasional blogs as the mode strikes.
I took some pics of the garden at the house the other day and I thought I would share a photo of some of the Lily of the Valleys coming up. This is one of three flower beds with the lilies. The ones right next to the house have buds on them (and how I could ID the flowers) there are more coming up in the lawn, and at the back of the house. I am sure that they will smell sweet in a few more weeks. Also in this flower bed there was a maple yearling (about 30 cm high), which I will not be letting it grow. Who needs a maple tree right next to the house to destroy the foundation?

Last time a mentioned that there was a gameboy in one of the rooms - yes the owners did remember to take that. They did leave some junk in the basement and upstairs. In one of the boxes of old toys there was a hand sander - which I am sure will be put to use in the future.

The electricians came yesterday and today to update the wiring and install new receptacles (remember none in the kitchen). My husband moves in on Saturday (I am back in NJ).

So it was an exhausting/exciting weekend.
